CANNES, France (May 22, 2024) – The Cultural Development Fund, a cornerstone in advancing Saudi Arabia’s cultural sector, is making a notable impact at the 77th Cannes International Film Festival, held from May 14 to 25. This marks the third year the fund has participated in the event, underscoring its dedication to fostering the local film industry and enhancing its international presence.

Central to the fund’s participation is the Film Sector Financing Program, presented at the Saudi pavilion under the guidance of the Film Commission. This program offers extensive financial packages that cover every stage of the filmmaking process, from development and production to distribution. It is open to both local and international film and TV production companies operating in Saudi Arabia.

“The Film Sector Financing Program is a pivotal initiative aimed at developing a sustainable and dynamic film industry in Saudi Arabia,” stated a spokesperson for the Cultural Development Fund. “By providing necessary financial support and attracting investment, we are cultivating an ecosystem where creative talent can thrive and the cultural sector can expand.”

Beyond providing financial support to filmmakers, the program also seeks to attract investment funds and companies to participate in the Kingdom’s rapidly growing film industry. This initiative is part of the fund’s broader mission to attract global talent and investments, thereby boosting Saudi Arabia’s cultural output and economic development.

Launched in 2021 under the National Development Fund, the Cultural Development Fund plays an essential role in revitalizing Saudi Arabia’s cultural landscape. By backing a diverse array of cultural projects and encouraging investments, the fund aligns with the National Culture Strategy and the ambitious goals set out in Saudi Vision 2030. These efforts aim to cultivate a vibrant domestic cultural sector that significantly contributes to the national GDP and positions Saudi Arabia as a leader in global cultural initiatives.

As the Cannes Film Festival progresses, the Cultural Development Fund, alongside its partners from the Saudi film industry, is set to make significant strides in securing investments and forming collaborations that will propel the Kingdom’s film sector to new heights.
