If you’re arriving by plane, Yellowstone Airport (WYS) in West Yellowstone, Montana is the closest airport to the park. During the summer tourist season, there are regular domestic flights connecting from Salt Lake City. From the airport, most travellers opt to rent a car to reach Yellowstone National Park.
Unfortunately, there are currently no direct train routes to Yellowstone National Park. The closest Amtrak destination with bus transfers to West Yellowstone is Salt Lake City, Utah.

Driving is a popular option, with five entrances into Yellowstone National Park. From Wyoming, you can enter in the north via Gardiner along Route 89, through Silver Gate and Cooke City on US Route 212, or from West Yellowstone along US Routes 20, 191, and 287. If you’re coming from Cody, Wyoming, entrances can be found along Routes 14, 16, and 20. From Grand Teton National Park, you can enter through US Routes 89, 191, and 287.
For those travelling by bus, the Salt Lake Express Shuttle offers service from Utah to West Yellowstone, Montana. From there, you can transfer by private car to reach Yellowstone National Park. The journey takes approximately 10 hours and costs $80-$85 one way.
